Could you just throw some light on the preventive aspects of Allergic Respiratory Disorders with special reference to Yoga and other exercises. Thank You.

Whatever Allergic disorders in the respiratory passages are expected to be prevented, the measures have to be falling under the following groups: –

a) Blocking/minimizing the exposure to known or suspected antigen

i) By removing the sufferer away from the antigen.

ii) By using mechanical/physical or chemical blockers.

b) Desensitizing/ hyposensitizing.

c) Drugs, used to treat Allergic reactions after they have set-in and to use maintenance doses of the same if and when exposure is anticipated to be more.

Special reference to exercises & Yoga come in for dealing with prevention of SEQUELAE of the full-blown Asthmatic attacks/Ch. Bronchial Asthma.

It should be remembered that among the many types of Bronchial Asthma,

Exercise-Induced asthma is also an important one specially among children and young adults. In such cases other treatments are there and after the use of such medications to minimize hyper-reactivity of Bronchial passage to exercise, graded breathing exercises with special reference to clean, pollution-free/ allergen-free atmosphere with less humid, less cold air can be helpful in reducing Air Locking which is concomitant with Ch. Bronchial Asthma.

It may not be out of place to point out that Yoga has role in training the mind to Relax and Psychosomatic element is definitely there in the Broncho-constrication produced in Bronchial Asthma. Patient Education must be constantly enhanced and effort should be there to let the patient understand difference between Quick-Relief and Long-Term preventive medication. They must recognize that when their Asthma is worsening, and take action.
